Two Futminna Students In Hijab Nearly Lynched

female.hijab_
Two female undergraduate students of the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, Friday, were nearly lynched to death by irate members of the public when they were suspected and accused of being suicide bombers.
The students who were dressed in hijab (Islamic apparel for women) were returning to resume school when some members of the public at Central mosque Minna raised alarm that the two ladies were suspected to be suicide bombers.
Eye witness said that the two victims who were dressed covering all their bodies and faces were trying to walk across the frontage of the mosque when the jumat prayers were about to be said.
Their mode of dressing and the bags they were carrying attracted the attention of other worshippers and this led to the raising of alarm but for Police intervention the two ladies would have been lynched to death. One of the victims was injured by the irate crowd and she is currently receiving treatment from Police Clinic in Minna.
When contacted Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ibrahim Gambari confirmed the incident but said that the two victims were wrongly accused.
“When the attention of our men on duty was drawn to the ladies, they were subjected to bodily search and their bags also whisked and nothing incriminating were found on them. We were able to establish that the two of them are returning students of FUT Minna. Their mode of dressing made people to suspect them.
“It took the timely intervention of our men as members of the public had started to beat up one of the ladies leading to the point of sustaining some injuries and she is being treated at the Police Clinic,” Gambari state.
The Police spokesman, who decried the mob action of members of the public, advised that Police should be allowed to do their work after complaint must have been lodged.

Nothing Will Happen To Me – Emir Of Kano, Sanusi Blasts Boko Haram

emir-of-kano-sanusi-lamido-sanusi1
In what appears to be a reply to the Boko Haram leader, Shekau, the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II, said that he remained protected against any evil attack and nothing was going to happen to him except the will of Allah, the creator.
“I am protected and nothing is going to happen to me”, the Emir stated.
This was disclosed during a Friday special prayer session held at the Kano City Central Mosque (Masallachin Sarki) yesterday. Sanusi who presided over the special prayer reiterated his earlier call on the general public to protect themselves against the attacks of the Boko Haram sect.
On Shekau’s position on attacking religious groups, Muhammad Sanusi II urged all Muslim faithful and the followers of Tijjaniyya, Qadiriyya and Izala religious movement to be vigilant and continue to guard themselves and rise against insurgent attacks.
He called on the people to be vigilant and protect their mosques, churches, markets and hospitals against any attack.
According to the emir, it is rather unacceptable for people to abandon their daily deals or desert places of worship because of the fear created by evil doers. He urged all not to succumb to fear and be their brothers’ keepers.

Emir Of Kano In Danger? Boko Haram Leader Shekau Vows To Attack Emir Sanusi Of Kano In New Video

emir-of-kano-sanusi-lamido-sanusi1
Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has threatened to attack the Emir of Kano, Muhummadu Sanusi II, in retaliation for the Emir’s call on Kano residents and other Nigerians to arm and defend themselves against the terror organization.
In a new video released weekend, Mr. Shekau said his group does not consider Mr. Sanusi a true Muslim, and will attack him whenever an opportunity presents itself.
The Emir had earlier issued a call to arms after a series of deadly attacks by suspected Boko Haram militants in Kano.
In a 19-minute new video first released Saturday, Mr. Shekau did not claim responsibility for the Mosque attack.
But he said his group remains prepared to fight and kill anyone who challenges its ideology, and all non-Muslims and “fake” Muslims like the emir.
“Before I start talking to my brothers who believed in me and the religion of Allah not the religion of democracy, not that of western education, those who believed in the religion of the Quran not that of the constitution and not religion of the Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Jonathan, Obasanjo, Atiku, Babangida, Obama, Bush, Clinton, but the religion of Allah,” he said.
“Now listen to me Emir of Kano. I am talking to you and only you because of your recent utterances.
“Let me inform you now that you are late, you are should know that you are only but the King of Kano, King of Central Bank, King of MONEY, you are only Sanusi Lamido,” he said.
Mr. Shekau denounced the Emir’s religion as religion based on constitution, idol worship and homosexuality.
“Our own government is defined as government of the Allah by the Allah and for the Allah not as you define you own government as the government of the people by the people and for the people,” he said.
Mr. Shekau said his group will fight local vigilantes and hunters, who have successfully crushed the advances of its fighters in some parts of Nigeria’s northeast.
“Emir of Kano Sanusi you are late, that our triumph is just for a period of time so you said. Even your predecessors who are renowned idol worshipers in Islamic history like ‘Abujahal’ could not succeed fighting Islam.
Yes you can say that our success is for a period of time, because you are a king of Bank and a loyal citizen of his country,”
The terrorist leader said his members are ready to be slaughtered and killed so they can rest in heaven.
“Because you are made the Emir of Kano that is why you got angry and was calling on the Vigilante groups and hunters to attack us. Let me tell you that the hunters and the vigilante groups will fail and you will also fail,” he said.
He condemned all other Islamic sects in the country calling them pagans.
He said the Izala, Tijjaniyya, Qadiriyya and Shiite Islamic groups are pagans and his group will continue to kill their followers.
He also condemned the government in Saudi Arabia saying they will all perish in hell.
“We will kill you people, we will capture hostages and keep selling some.

Sahara Reporters collected that over hundred Boko Haram militants entered Bulaburin village to attack army men who escorted PHCN personnel to repair power installations devastated by terrorists six months ago in Damboa.
The insurgents came in a convoy of Hilux vehicles and motorcycles but met heavy resistance, an army source said.
A PHCN staff on assignment in the area told journalists that the troops killed up to 75 militants during the clash.
He said: “I am happy today because it would have been a black day for us at Bulaburin.
We went to repair Maiduguri electrical infrastructure which had been shut down by militants since July as we were working we started hearing sporadic gun shots, so the troops fought back.
However, the intense fight affected our vehicles; we drove to Maiduguri on flat tyres.”

GOBE!! Gunmen Abduct UNIOSUN ASUU Chairman’s Wife In Osogbo

uniosun
Gunmen have kidnapped the wife of Chairman, Osun State University chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Mrs. Funmilayo Abiona.
Abiona was abducted in Osogbo on Friday night.
Our correspondent gathered on Saturday that Mrs. Abiona closed from her shop around Oke Bale area of Osogbo and was heading home to meet her husband, Dr. Oluseye Abiona, when the hoodlums who had been on her trail caught up with her and forcefully took her away after they had engaged her in hot argument.
The hoodlums, according to some residents of the area were dressed in red shirts and this made some to believe that the abductors might be members of a cult group from the university.
The abducted woman was said to have been driving home an unregistered Lexus car and was in the car with her two children when the incident happened.
After crossing the woman’s car, the hoodlums were said to have come down and uttered some words which angered the woman and she flared up. Mrs. Abiona was said to have struggled with her captors who eventually overpowered her and forced her into a red car which they used for the operation.
The hoodlums, out of anger, were said to have smashed the rear screen of the Lexus car but they left the car and the children and drove away their target.
Efforts to speak with the ASUU chairman were unsuccessful.
However, source close to him said that the case had been reported to the police.
The source said that the case was reported at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Osogbo on Saturday.
Calls put across to the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, to confirm the abduction terminated abruptly on many occasions due to poor signal but she was yet to respond to the text message sent to her when this report was filed.

Modu Sherif former Governor of Borno State speaks what he knows about Boko Haram

shrif

Former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has opened up on what he knows about the Boko Haram insurgents currently ravaging states in the northeast and some other parts of the country, while disclosing that only the neighbouring Republic of Chad could help solve the menace.
Sheriff, while speaking in a BBC Hausa Service magazine programme (Gane Mini Hanya) yesterday, and monitored by LEADERSHIP Sunday in Abuja, denied reports saying that Boko Haram started during his tenure as governor of Borno State between 2003 and 2011. He revealed that the radical religious sect actually started in Yobe State in 1992, and that he has been trying to find a lasting solution to it, including talking to the Chadian government.
the former governor, who is also at the centre of a controversy surrounding the sponsorship of the Boko Haram insurgency, following claims by an Australian negotiator, Steven Davis, that he and a former chief of army staff, General Azubuike Ihejirika, were allegedly backing the insurgents, said Chad could help in solving the issue.
Although, the former governor along with Iherijika were exonerated of any complicity during the week by the Department of State Security (DSS), but reacting to his exoneration by the DSS, which paraded people it called fake Boko Haram ceasefire negotiators that confessed to implicating him and Ihejirika after inducement, Sheriff said it is the truth that has come to prevail over falsehood and that he has been vindicated by the latest revelations from the arrested impostors, who allegedly connived with the negotiator, Davis.
He alleged that the Borno State government was responsible for the orchestrated plot to frame him up with the Boko Haram sponsorship allegation in order to defame his character.
Keeping mute on how Chad could possibly help in solving the problem, Sheriff added that since he is one of the few politicians that has benefitted greatly from the kindness of Borno State, as such he is doing whatever it is to help solve the insurgency.
“Nothing preoccupies my mind in Nigeria presently like the return of peace in Borno. When Borno State was peaceful, there was no place I cherished to stay in the world like Maiduguri. I, my friends, my confidants, my parents and all the schools I attended are in Maiduguri.
“Therefore, I am more concerned than anybody in this country, because what Borno State did for me has not been done to any other indigene. You know, in Borno State, a governor has never been re-elected apart from me; in Borno State, no senator has ever been elected thrice apart from me. So, Borno people have done everything for me, and there is no one in this world that I know other than Chad, which I think could help Borno,” he said.
On his belief that he was being framed, Sheriff said: “They defamed my character, and when they started it, I once told journalists that it was plotted in Maiduguri. We know the plotters, their motives, and that by the grace of God, the truth will prevail; and now, the arrested impostors have said it all to the world.”
The former governor alleged that the current Borno State government’s connection with plot to defame him became glaring when the government quickly came out to disown one of the impostors, Junaid Idrissa Khadi, who was until four months ago a special adviser to Governor Kashim Shettima, but rather said Khadi remained his (Sherrif) known associate because he had earlier served his government before Shettima engaged him allegedly under pressure from him.
“This is nonsense. If I had forced him (Khadi) on them, then why will he connive with a Whiteman to implicate me, that I am a Boko Haram member? If at all I helped him to be engaged, then he won’t implicate me…and I have instructed my lawyers to file charges,” he said.
Sheriff, who lauded the federal government’s counter-insurgency effort in the interview, however, denied the insinuations that the Boko Haram started during his tenure as governor.
“This is not true. The Boko Haram issue did not start during my tenure. If you don’t know, let me educate you today. Boko Haram started in 1992 at Kalama in Yobe State, and at that time, I was not a governor. So, if anybody tells you it started during my tenure, he may be part of my traducers. But the truth is that it didn’t start during my tenure,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Borno State government, through Governor Shettima’s spokesman, Isa Gusau, has denied any government-sponsored plot to tarnish the image of the former governor, saying the government in Maiduguri was only concerned with the weighty allegations against Sheriff as an indigene of the state.
He also added that the incumbent state governor has nothing to gain from Sheriff’s predicament.
Gusau, in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service yesterday, said: “Governor Kashim Shettima has nothing to gain from the allegation against Ali Sheriff. In fact, to him, it is even shameful that a Borno State indigene, whom the governor has interacted or is connected with, is linked to what is happening. So, Governor Shettima’s connection with this saga is unnecessary.”

A former Niger Delta militant, Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, alia Tompolo, has bought seven decommissioned Norwegian battleships, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.

Reports by a Norwegian newspaper, Dagbladet, said that the fast-speed Hauk-class guided missile boats had been re-armed with new weaponry.

The report also revealed that Ekpemupolo’s most recent purchase is a KNM Horten, a fast-attack craft now used in fighting piracy in Nigeria’s waterways.

It was learnt that in spite of his alleged history of violence, Tompolo, now controls the Global West Vessel Service, a privately owned contractor for maritime security for the Nigerian Maritime Safety Agency.

Buying arms from Norway requires an export license from Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ships were reportedly sold first to CAS Global, a British security company that has such a license, after which Ekpemupolo reportedly bought the ships from the British company.

Dagblade reported that the seven Norwegian ships are now part of the company’s maritime fleet patrolling under a contract for the Federal Government.

I Want To Crush Boko Haram But Some People Are Frustrating Me

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday admitted his frustration with the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle insecurity in some parts of the country, which he described as being hampered by sabotage.
The President described the alleged sabotage as a frustration, occurring both internally and externally.
But he did not elaborate on whether the saboteurs are in the government or in the military.
Addressing a delegation which was led by an actor, Segun Arinze,
Jonathan said, “One of our greatest challenges is this insecurity.
We have our frustrations, we have issues of sabotage: internal and external, but we are working very hard and by the grace of God, we will overcome.”
Despite the setback, however, the President assured his visitors that the efforts being put into the war by his government would soon yield positive result.
He admitted that apart from insecurity, the country is faced with challenges of infrastructure but assured that they are all surmountable.
He assured that his administration was committed to improving the situation in the areas of transportation, aviation, ports, roads and power infrastructure.
While lauding members of the entertainment industry for creating positive image for the country, Jonathan regretted that most politicians only generate negative issues.
He said, “Somebody may just look at you as entertainers but you are much more than just the entertainment industry because you create a positive image for Nigeria.
Most of us politicians are just busy generating negative issues. Everyday, they talk about corruption, governance and other issues.
It is you that pump the positive news into the system.”

100 Nigerians deported from Finland today

No fewer than 100 Nigerians were deported from Finland today Thursday December 11th after failing to get asylum. According to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the deportees included women, children and whole families. They arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, at 7a.m. aboard cargo airline - Privilege Gourment.

A deportee, Mr Isaac Ejiofor, told NAN that he had no CRIMINAL RECORDS in Finland and wondered why he was deported after spending over one year in the asylum camp. Ejiofor said he was earlier in Greece but later travelled to Finland to seek asylum in a bid to get a permit to work there.
"A policeman asked me what I want since I did not have any CRIMINAL RECORD to warrant my deportation. I said I wanted to work and live a normal life in Finland, so he (policeman) told me to seek asylum and I did that. I was taken to the asylum camp and was there for more than a year processing my work documents. There were other African nationals there with four Nigerians. Suddenly, we, the Nigerians were brought out and deported without any reason.
"The Nigerian Embassy in Finland refused to come to my aid, even after I paid 1,500 euros to embassy officials’’, he alleged.
Another deportee, who wanted to be identified as Jackso, alleged that officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Finland colluded with some Finnish immigration officers to extort MONEY from asylum seekers in the camp. Jackso said that the embassy officials promised to assist them to get work permits from the Finnish authority.

A female deportee, simply called Esther, said that she and her husband had been in Finland for over 14 years and was surprised that they were deported without committing any offense. Esther said she was deported along with her husband and seven-year old daughter without any compensation. She said that other Africans in the camp were given an opportunity to stay and work in Finland, but that the Finnish authorities were hostile to Nigerians.

She appealed to the Federal Government to come to their aid, particularly Nigerians in Finland and other European countries. She said most Nigerians in asylum in Finland came from other parts of Europe like Greece, Denmark, Sweden and Norway in order to acquire work documents.

NAN reports that of the deportees, three men were arrested for violence and were taken to the MMIA Police Station. Some others were arrested on arrival by the police for travel offenses and taken by a sheriff bus to the Criminal Investigation Department, Nigerian Police Force, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Atiku has lost again!!!

atiku abubakar1 APC Primaries: Atiku Loses APC Primaries Election
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lost the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The aspirant who many believe had the brightest chance of winning the primaries scored just 954 votes out of the 7214 ballots.

Although, Atiku has lost the primaries, he is believed in some quarters, to have the best policy plan to develop Nigeria among the five aspirants.

Counting of votes are still on at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, venue of the primaries, but as it stands, former Head of State Muhammadu Buhari seem like the obvious winner as the sorting of the ballot papers suggest.

Atiku has already conceded defeat and congratulated Buhari, whose votes are still being counted.

“I am very confident that you will provide the needed leadership to turn this country around.

I have no doubt that you will work with dedicated and qualified Nigerians to protect our citizens, improve our economy, create jobs, improve education, reform governance and fight corruption.

You will indeed bring the change Nigerians have been yearning for. Once more, congratulations,” he said.

“My dear friends, we have voted, a winner has emerged. I pledge my commitment to this Party, and to campaign vigorously for our candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and all APC candidates to ensure victory in the 2015 elections.

“I call on all other contestants and our party’s rank and file to unite behind our candidates at all levels to ensure that the PDP is defeated, so Nigerians can have real change.

“I will hand over to Gen. Buhari for his review and possible implementation my policy document which was developed in line with the party’s philosophy,” the statement by Atiku read.

Senate threatens to impeach Jonathan2 Leave Me Alone, Concentrate On National Issues, Jonathan Tells Senators Plotting To Impeach Him

President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerian senators to leave him alone and concentrate on other issues of national Importance.
Mr. Jonathan declared that the senators should know that there are other issues that ought to catch the lawmakers’ attention instead of threatening to sack him.
President Jonathan took this position in a statement issued by Doyin Okupe, a medical doctor who serves as senior special assistant to the president on public affairs.
The statement was however silent on whether Mr. Jonathan considers that he has, or has not, committed any impeachable offence.
The text of the full statement is below:
RE-PURPOTED GATHERING OF IMPEACHEABLE OFFENCES BY SOME SENATORS
The Senate in the last four years has conducted its legislative functions and responded to issues that are of great national importance with commendable political sagacity.
In this same period, the senate has functioned as a stabilizing force within the polity employing much political maturity that is required to guide and protect our nascent democracy.
However, confrontation and strong disagreements are not uncommon phenomenon in Executive-Legislative relationship world-wide.
The recent purported attempt by some Senators to prepare impeachable offences against the President, as reported in some section of the Media, is seen by us in this light.
We strongly trust and believe in the leadership of the present Senate and the unwavering patriotism and commitment that have been shown by the distinguished members and we trust that ultimately it is this tendency towards true Nationalism that will prevail in the Senate.
It is our view that there are at present, serious fundamental issues of National importance such as winning the war against terrorism and stabilizing the economy in the face of dwindling oil revenue which requires the full attention, commitment and swift action of distinguished members of the Senate.
We are of the opinion that all matters political can and will be resolved politically in the overall interest of our democracy and the wellbeing of our people.

Dr. Doyin Okupe, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs
