Junior Account Officer

in a firm in Abuja Full-time

Specialization Accounting / Audit / Tax,

Minimum Qualification Degree

Responsibilities
The Junior Account Officer provides support in
Identifying relevant problems and issues; and assisting in formulating implementation-oriented solutions
Further developing instruments and assisting in introducing innovation and change
Managing knowledge by disseminating and documenting know-how, experience and information
Assisting and ensuring that the bookkeeping of GIZ Country Office and GIZ Projects are prepared smoothly and on time
Assisting with the accurate and timely processing of personnel payroll.


The Junior Account Officer performs the following tasks:
Tasks
Project/Office Accounting
The Junior Account Officer
Is responsible for project / office accounting.
Prepares Bank reconciliation Statements on a monthly basis.
Reconciles the cash book balance with journal balances.
Ensures that vouchers comply with requirements.
Ensures that vouchers are booked promptly.
Notifies the Accounts Manager of any inadequacies discovered in the accounts.

Internal control
The Junior Account Officer
Identifies deviations from procedures during project accounting and documents this via error sheets to be sent on a monthly basis to the Head of Programmes.
Follows up with the programmes on unresolved issues in project accounting

Payroll
The Junior Account Officer
Verifies and calculates the monthly overtime; prepare the monthly payroll
Prepares the schedules for pension contribution, P.A.Y.E. deductions, N.S.I.T.F. and other payroll related payments.
Calculates and processes the final payments for exiting staff
Updates and maintains the information on the payroll platform.

General services
The Junior Account Officer
Ensures that receivables and payables are settled promptly.
Updates of the overview of payments made to appraisers

Other duties/additional tasks
The Junior Account Officer
Performs other duties and tasks that may be assigned to him/her from time to time

Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Accounting or similar recognised qualification.
Professional qualification will be an advantage.

Professional experience
Minimum of 3 years work experience
Experience in GIZ is an asset

Other knowledge, additional competences
Basic knowledge of accounting software
Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
Good knowledge of the European language widely used in the country, ideally a knowledge of German
Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
